On Saturday, August 1, 2026, a joint security commission executed a large-scale sweep operation targeting several high-crime areas within N’Djamena. This extensive intervention, which mobilized a variety of law enforcement and security units including the Garde nationale et nomade du Tchad (GNNT), the Gendarmerie nationale, the Police nationale, the Police judiciaire, and other specialized services, resulted in the detention of 252 individuals and the confiscation of numerous illegal items and substances.

The operation specifically focused on sectors such as Mandjakoli in the 5th arrondissement, Roma, Bildo, and Katanga in the 2nd arrondissement, along with Colombie and other identified neighborhoods across the capital city.

Hachim Haroum Deby, the Director of Public Security, confirmed that the apprehended individuals included both vendors and consumers of various illicit narcotics. Among the seized products were drugs commonly known as « Colorado » and « Bongo », alongside quantities of adulterated alcohol.

The mission was carried out under the direct oversight of the Director General of the Gendarmerie nationale, who also serves as the Deputy President of the Joint Control and Verification Commission. Key participants in the operation also included the 1st Deputy Police Controller General and the 2nd Deputy Commander of the Garde nationale et nomade du Tchad (GNNT).

Following the successful intervention, all 252 detained individuals were presented to the press. Security forces also displayed a range of confiscated items, which included weapons, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.

The comprehensive results of the operation were subsequently presented to the Minister of Public Security and Immigration, General Ali Ahmat Aghabache.

This significant action underscores the ongoing commitment of internal security forces to enhance citizen safety, uphold public order, and combat all manifestations of criminality, particularly the trafficking and consumption of illicit substances, throughout the capital.
