A shocking display of aggression unfolded recently in N’Djamena, near the Goudjé Barrière roundabout, around 5 PM. Traffic police officers were actively managing the flow of vehicles to alleviate significant congestion when the incident occurred.

Initial accounts indicate that the driver of a Toyota Corolla, equipped with tinted windows, attempted to bypass the traffic regulations despite clear instructions from the officers on duty. A traffic brigade officer intervened, seeking to enforce the established directives and de-escalate the situation. This attempt quickly escalated into a heated confrontation.

The individual, identified as an active police officer who had been previously reassigned from the 3rd arrondissement police station, then brandished a pistol. He reportedly discharged a warning shot into the air before firing directly at the officers. Two agents sustained gunshot wounds, with one being struck in the ear. Fortunately, medical reports suggest their injuries are not life-threatening.

During the struggle to apprehend the assailant, officers managed to disarm him. However, before being fully subdued, the officer also reportedly inflicted a knife wound to the forehead of another policeman, right at the Goudjé Barrière roundabout.

The injured officers received immediate medical attention, being swiftly transported to a nearby health facility. Their condition is being closely monitored, though initial assessments offer reassurance regarding the victims of the gunshot wounds.

The aggressor was subsequently handcuffed and taken into custody at the Police Secours headquarters, under the General Directorate of Police. Several officers present during the arrest indicated that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

An official investigation has been launched to thoroughly examine the precise circumstances surrounding this violent attack, which has understandably caused considerable alarm among both the public and law enforcement personnel in the area.
