In a fiery address, Sonko did not hold back, directly targeting the current President of the Republic, who had removed him from his position as Prime Minister just last May.

“Senegalese did not fight for this outcome”

To a captivated audience, Ousmane Sonko articulated a profound divergence between the foundational ideals that propelled the movement to power and the actions now being taken by the executive branch. In a particularly resonant moment, he forcefully declared: « The Senegalese did not cast their votes for this. The Senegalese did not struggle for this. Lives were not sacrificed for this. Individuals did not endure imprisonment for this. The Senegalese fought for a systemic transformation. Yet today, that very system resides within the palace and continues to perpetuate itself. »

This statement unequivocally signals a complete rupture between the Pastef leader and the current head of state, directly challenging the government’s present direction, which he deems inconsistent with the battles fought during their time in opposition. Ousmane Sonko, appearing resolute in his intent to confront the president of Kiiraay – Les Patriotes républicains in upcoming electoral contests, expressed absolute confidence in a future victory, regardless of any political maneuvers by his adversaries.

« That is precisely why I believe he can align with all the mayors he wishes or forge alliances with every party he desires. My appeal is solely to the people. Because in a democracy, there is only one truth, and that truth is the people, » he asserted, speaking directly to his militants and, by extension, to all Senegalese citizens.
