Paris Saint-Germain’s Russian pipeline gains momentum
When Paris Saint-Germain completed the signing of Matvey Safonov last summer for around €20 million from Krasnodar, few anticipated the goalkeeper would swiftly displace Lucas Chevalier as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s successor. The 28-year-old Russian international has since claimed the number one jersey, with injuries being the only remaining obstacle before the Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30.
Luis Campos turns focus to promising Russian talents
The unexpected success of Safonov’s transfer has emboldened sporting director Luis Campos to explore further opportunities in the Russian market. Among the most compelling prospects is Aleksey Batrakov, a 20-year-old attacking midfielder who has delivered 17 goals and 12 assists in 35 appearances for Lokomotiv Moscow this season. Reports indicate Campos has already made contact with the player’s representatives, with negotiations reportedly taking place in the Russian capital.
Vladimir Kuzmichev, Batrakov’s agent, recently confirmed that PSG officials or their associates had visited Moscow to initiate discussions. « I have information that either he or one of his closest collaborators should head to Moscow. They’ll primarily communicate with the club », Kuzmichev stated.
Kislyak emerges as second potential Russian signing
The Parc des Princes outfit is also keeping tabs on another young Russian prodigy: Matvey Kislyak. The 20-year-old CSKA Moscow midfielder has already established himself as a key player, contributing six goals and six assists in 28 league appearances. His contract runs until 2029, making him an attractive long-term option. Kislyak has earned nine caps for Russia and has been praised for his technical abilities and tactical awareness, qualities that align with Luis Enrique’s playing philosophy.
Should Kislyak arrive, he could potentially replace Lee Kang-in, whose future at the club remains uncertain. With both Batrakov and Kislyak representing significant investments in the Russian football market, PSG’s strategy appears to be paying dividends after the initial success of Safonov’s acquisition.
