Taxawu Sénégal, a political movement led by Khalifa Sall, recently held its foundational congress at the Grand Théâtre in Dakar, marking its official transformation from a collective platform into a structured political party.

The event drew substantial participation from party members, who arrived in large numbers adorned in party colors, waving banners and chanting slogans in an atmosphere charged with political enthusiasm.

Political leaders rally behind Taxawu Sénégal

Several prominent political figures attended the congress, including:

  • Bamba Fall, Mayor of Médina
  • Alioune Ndoye, Mayor of Dakar-Plateau
  • Aïssata Tall Sall
  • Oumar Sarr, Coordinator of the Front for the Republic (FDR)
  • Me El Hadji Diouf
  • Zahara Kane Thiame

According to the organizing committee, a total of six political parties and multiple civic movements joined Taxawu Sénégal, formalizing their alliance by signing the party’s constitutive act during the event.

Khalifa Sall’s sharp critique of governance

In his closing speech, Khalifa Sall emphasized that the congress represented a founding moment in transforming Taxawu Sénégal into an official political party. He described the current state of Senegal as being in a deep crisis, using the metaphor of being trapped in the Baara Yegoo—a local expression symbolizing a state of stagnation and mismanagement.

Sall did not hesitate to openly criticize the ruling establishment, declaring:

« They are stuck in the Baara Yegoo… but we have seen through their tactics. »

This statement was widely interpreted as a direct indictment of the government’s performance and leadership.

Call for unity among opposition forces

Beyond his condemnation of the current administration, Khalifa Sall urged opposition groups to unite around a shared vision, stressing the importance of trust and cohesion in building a collective response to the nation’s challenges. He reflected on the movement’s journey—marked by challenges, strategic shifts, and political realignments—while praising the dedication of its members and affiliated forces.
