The UNESCO Mali delegation, led by its Acting Head and Representative, Mr. Ali-Mohamed Sinane, attended the official launch ceremony of the 32nd national reforestation campaign in Bamako on Saturday, July 26, 2026. Held at the Palais des Pionniers, the event was presided over by General of Division Abdoulaye Maïga, Prime Minister and Head of Government, representing the President of the Transition.

The ceremony drew participation from multiple government officials, national institutions, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, as well as women’s and youth associations. It also mobilized numerous stakeholders committed to environmental protection, sustainable natural resource management, and combating the effects of climate change.

Planting 21 million trees for a greener Mali

Under the theme ‘Youth at the heart of environmental citizenship for a greener, more resilient Mali,’ the 32nd edition reinforces national efforts to restore ecosystems, fight desertification, and preserve natural resources. A special focus is placed on citizen mobilization, particularly among young people, as a key driver of ecological transition. The campaign aims to plant 21 million trees nationwide during the rainy season, contributing to the creation of a greener, more resilient Mali.

By participating in this initiative, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting Mali through community sensitization, capacity-building for local actors, and promoting innovative solutions to enhance ecosystem resilience against environmental and climate challenges.
