The Director General of Africa CDC, Jean Kaseya, recently held a productive meeting with the French Minister of Health, Stéphanie Rist. The discussions followed the confirmation of an imported case of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus on French soil.
During these talks, Jean Kaseya expressed his satisfaction with the formal assurance provided by France that no travel restrictions would be implemented in response to this health event. This commitment helps maintain essential movement while managing the public health situation.
The patient in question is a Congolese humanitarian physician who had been actively involved in the Ebola response in Ituri on behalf of the non-governmental organization ALIMA. After returning to France, where he typically resides, he was diagnosed with the virus. This represents the first confirmed instance of the disease within French borders during this period.
Africa CDC, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and health officials from both France and the RDC, remains dedicated to managing the outbreak. The focus remains on safeguarding communities and ensuring a synchronized response across both continental and international levels.
