The agro-industrial landscape in the West Region has reached a new milestone with the official opening of the Bangou processing plant in the Hauts-Plateaux Department.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Friday, June 26, 2026, was presided over by the Minister of Commerce, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana. This industrial unit is a project of META INVEST, the company behind the Denky brand. The event also saw the participation of Gabriel Mbairobe, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, alongside local leaders, business figures, and a large gathering of residents from the community.
Built on a three-hectare plot provided by the state, this facility focuses on processing local crops including maize, potatoes, and various fruits. With an annual production capacity of 5,200 tons, the plant will manufacture five different consumer products. The CEO of META INVEST, Lisette Claudia Tame Soumedjong, intends to distribute these goods across all 360 districts of Cameroon, while also targeting international markets through the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAf). The project is expected to generate over 100 direct jobs and approximately 450 indirect employment opportunities.
Lisette Claudia Tame Soumedjong continues to expand her industrial footprint with this latest venture. Her track record includes the cacao processing plant in Mbankomo, near Yaoundé, which opened in early 2025, and another facility in Dimako, located in the East Region, which began operations in late 2025.
This initiative aligns perfectly with the national strategy for structural economic transformation championed by President Paul Biya. By focusing on local processing of agricultural raw materials, the project supports the country’s industrialization goals. The Minister of Commerce noted that this new unit is a key component of both the import-substitution policy and balanced regional development.
Furthermore, this industrial tool is strategically positioned to leverage the ZLECAf, a massive unified market of 1.3 billion people. This framework allows products manufactured in Bangou to reach consumers across the entire continent. The project by META INVEST serves as a catalyst for regional agricultural growth, providing meaningful careers for the youth to combat rural exodus and unemployment. It also promotes the “Made in Cameroon” brand while opening doors to specialized niche markets.
