In a heartfelt plea aired on national radio, prominent Senegalese figure Chérif Bouna Samsidine Aïdara has urged President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to embrace unity and resilience during the nation’s challenging period.
Speaking on iRadio, Chérif Bouna Samsidine Aïdara acknowledged that Senegal is facing difficult times, where political stability hinges on the ability of its leaders to set aside differences and work collaboratively. He emphasized that the current tensions at the highest levels of government demand a measured, solution-oriented approach rather than escalation.
Leaders urged to lead with resilience and peace
The activist stressed that both the President and Prime Minister must embody the principles of the International Day of Peace, fostering an environment where national unity takes precedence over partisan disputes. According to him, the instability at the top has unsettled citizens, who are growing increasingly anxious about the future of their country.
Chérif Bouna Samsidine Aïdara remarked, “What we see and hear in public discourse is far from reassuring. Senegalese people are fearful. We cannot afford to let our nation slip into deeper turmoil at the highest levels of leadership.” He called on Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko to prioritize dialogue, compromise, and reconciliation to steer the country back to stability and progress.
The appeal comes at a time when public sentiment is fragile, and calls for calm have grown louder across the nation. Leaders are being reminded that their actions today will shape Senegal’s trajectory for years to come.
