Chad is escalating its crackdown on human trafficking, with a renewed focus on protecting women and children who are most vulnerable to exploitation. A recent circular from the government has been distributed to security and judicial leaders, emphasizing strict enforcement of existing laws and reinforcing the urgency of this battle.

Human trafficking ranks among the most egregious violations of human rights, often involving sexual exploitation and forced labor. As a signatory to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime since 2009, Chad has enacted multiple legal measures to combat this scourge, including Ordinance No. 006/PR/2018 and Law No. 12/PR/2018.

Enhanced enforcement measures

Under the new directives, authorities are required to conduct swift investigations, document findings in official reports, and promptly transfer cases to competent courts. All cases must be reported to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and the National Anti-Trafficking Commission for rigorous follow-up.

Provincial oversight

Provincial delegates have been tasked with ensuring these guidelines are strictly implemented. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to establish a national database, laying the groundwork for a more effective anti-human trafficking policy across Chad.
