At the podium of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Chad reaffirmed its pivotal role in regional stability. Delivered by Dr. Abdelmadjid Abdelrahim Mahamat, Minister of Public Health and Prevention, on behalf of President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, the Chadian message underscored the nation’s diplomatic and humanitarian efforts.

Confronting persistent crises, Chad stressed the fragility of the Lake Chad Basin and urged developed nations to fulfill their financial pledges for climate and resilience. On security, N’Djamena highlighted its major contribution to peacekeeping operations, notably the deployment of 1,500 troops to Haiti under the Security Council-authorized force.

The country also detailed the critical humanitarian situation along its borders, hosting over two million displaced persons, including more than one million Sudanese refugees fleeing the conflict since April 2023. While reaffirming its strict neutrality in the Sudanese conflict and support for peace initiatives, the Chadian government sounded an alarm: it condemned in the strongest terms recent airstrikes in the Ennedi-East province, calling them an unacceptable violation of its territorial integrity and reserving the right to retaliate if they recur.

Finally, Chad addressed international issues, rejecting acts of aggression against sovereign states—from Iran to the Gulf, Gaza, and Cuba—while reiterating its commitment to a two-state solution in the Middle East and a thorough reform of multilateralism.
