Côte d’Ivoire has once again demonstrated its economic prowess by securing an unprecedented level of international funding, far exceeding expectations for its National Development Plan (NDP) through 2030. This achievement underscores the country’s restored stability and robust economic growth, making it a prime destination for global investors.
unprecedented financial backing transforms development trajectory
The Minister of Planning revealed that international public investments pledged for the NDP have quadrupled the anticipated amount, reaching over $80 billion—well beyond the originally targeted $20 billion. This landmark announcement came during a high-profile event in Abidjan, where government officials and investors gathered to finalize funding strategies for the ambitious plan.
The NDP encompasses critical sectors including security enhancement, agricultural modernization (accounting for 20% of GDP), support for emerging national champions, and major infrastructure projects such as a high-speed rail network.
key pledges and economic resilience
Major international partners, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and the European Union, have committed to these substantial investments. The Minister highlighted the strong economic indicators driving this confidence, noting that over 70% of the NDP’s funding—amounting to $147 billion—is expected to come from the private sector.
The total NDP funding now stands at $209 billion, with significant contributions from both international backers and the Ivorian government. This follows a successful $1.3 billion international bond issuance in February, secured at exceptionally favorable terms for an emerging economy. Additionally, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently approved a disbursement of nearly $833 million under multiple assistance programs, praising Côte d’Ivoire’s resilient economy.
The IMF projects a slight economic slowdown to 6% growth in 2026 from 6.5% in 2025, alongside a projected inflation rate of 3.3% for the current year. These figures reflect a stable yet cautiously optimistic outlook for one of West Africa’s most dynamic economies.
Historically reliant on agriculture, Côte d’Ivoire is actively diversifying its economy through recent discoveries in mining, oil, and natural gas sectors, positioning itself for sustainable long-term growth.
