The Côte d’Ivoire has once again demonstrated its economic resilience by securing unprecedented international funding, far exceeding initial expectations to propel its national development ambitions. This remarkable achievement underscores the country’s economic vitality and renewed stability, making it a prime destination for global investors.
Record-breaking pledges for Côte d’Ivoire’s development plan
In a landmark announcement, Ivory Coast’s Minister of Planning revealed that the country has attracted international public investments four times higher than projected for its National Development Plan (NDP) through 2030. This unprecedented commitment amounts to over $80 billion in pledged funding from international partners.
The two-day forum in Abidjan brought together government officials and hundreds of public and private investors to discuss financing strategies for the NDP. Key components include security enhancement, agricultural modernization (representing 20% of GDP), support for national champions, and major infrastructure projects such as a high-speed rail system.
Economic indicators reach all-time highs
“All our economic indicators are nearly perfect,” declared Minister Souleymane Diarrassouba during the event. The country had initially sought around $20 billion in public financing but received pledges totaling $80 billion from major development partners including the World Bank, African Development Bank, and European Union.
The NDP’s total funding requirement stands at $209 billion, with the Ivorian government contributing significantly to the budget. The Minister highlighted that over 70% of these funds, amounting to more than $147 billion, are expected to come from the private sector.
Strong economic fundamentals attract investors
Ivory Coast’s economic performance has been particularly impressive, with average growth of 6.5% over recent years. This robust expansion follows a decade of political and military instability in the early 2000s. The country’s resilience was further demonstrated in February through a successful $1.3 billion international bond issuance at favorable terms for an emerging market.
The International Monetary Fund has also recognized Ivory Coast’s economic strength, approving nearly $833 million in disbursements through various assistance programs. While the IMF projects a slight growth slowdown to 6% in 2026 (from 6.5% in 2025) and an inflation rate of 3.3%, the overall economic outlook remains positive.
Diversification drives economic transformation
Traditionally reliant on agriculture, Ivory Coast has been actively diversifying its economy in recent years. The discovery of mineral, gas, and oil resources has opened new avenues for development. This strategic shift is expected to further enhance the country’s economic stability and growth prospects.
