The 7th Ministerial Meeting of the African Atlantic Partnership Process (PEAA) officially commenced on Monday in Cotonou, under the co-presidency of Morocco and Benin, with a view to consolidating the political momentum of this African partnership, driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Attending the meeting were key representatives from both countries, including AMCI Ambassador Mohamed Methqal, PEAA Secretary Tarik Iziraren, Moroccan ambassador to Benin Rachid Rguibi, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Diaspora Communities.
The African Atlantic Partnership Process is part of King Mohammed VI’s vision to transform the African Atlantic space into a zone of peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
Since its inception in Rabat last June 2022, PEAA has made significant strides, including establishing a permanent secretariat in Rabat, creating three thematic groups, and adopting a joint action program centered on dialogue, security, blue economy, maritime connectivity, energy, and marine environmental protection.
The successive ministerial meetings held in Rabat, New York, and Praia have enabled the adoption of several declarations and action plans aimed at strengthening cooperation between African states bordering the Atlantic Ocean in areas like security and maritime connectivity, fishery preservation, transition to renewable energy, and sustainable development.
Monday’s Cotonou meeting seeks to reinforce coordination among member states for integration and co-development of the African Atlantic space.
