The FC Nantes has issued a strong condemnation following the pitch invasion by some supporters during the abandoned match against Toulouse. The club made its position clear in an official statement published on its website the day after the incident.

The match, which was halted due to the supporters’ behavior, has been placed under investigation by the French Football League (LFP), with a decision expected during the upcoming meeting scheduled for May 27.

Club stands by its values in the face of frustration

The FC Nantes expressed deep understanding for the frustration and distress caused by a challenging season and the club’s relegation to Ligue 2. However, the club emphasized that such emotions cannot justify the actions of masked individuals who invaded the pitch at Stade de la Beaujoire.

The statement read: “While the club acknowledges the distress and frustration stemming from an extremely difficult season and the sporting relegation, the values, history, and identity of FC Nantes cannot be tarnished by such acts. Anger and disappointment cannot justify the presence of hooded individuals storming the pitch, creating an atmosphere of intimidation and tension. A football stadium must remain a popular, festive, and safe space for everyone.”

Call for unity, calm, and respect

The club also took the time to recognize the “many supporters” who maintained their composure despite the circumstances. It extended its gratitude to the security teams and authorities who were mobilized throughout the evening.

The FC Nantes reaffirmed its commitment to full cooperation with the authorities, the LFP, and state services to shed light on the events and establish responsibilities. The club concluded its statement by calling for “unity, calm, and respect” to ensure the best possible preparation for the upcoming season.
