Kamitatu challenges Tshisekedi over preferred dialogue with M23 over opposition

Olivier Kamitatu, Chief of Staff for Moïse Katumbi, has sharply criticized President Félix Tshisekedi’s approach to resolving the crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Speaking during a live debate hosted by journalist Stanis Bujakera Tshiamala, Kamitatu questioned why Tshisekedi appears more inclined to negotiate with the M23 rebel group in Doha than to engage in inclusive national dialogue with the country’s political opposition.
« The paradox is striking: the president is visibly more comfortable dealing with the M23 than with his own political rivals, » Kamitatu stated. He emphasized that without addressing the root causes of the conflict, no lasting solution can be achieved. Kamitatu pointed out that the Congolese Episcopal Conference (CENCO) and the Evangelical Church of Congo (ECC) had already proposed a consensus-based framework after consulting all stakeholders, yet Kinshasa has ignored it.
« Only two out of eight expected protocols have been signed, and even those are not being implemented, whether it’s the ceasefire or prisoner exchanges, » he noted. Kamitatu argued that the Congolese people have historically resolved divisions through dialogue and consensus, advocating for a solution crafted by Congolese themselves, in all their diversity.
