Ligue 1: match Nantes-Toulouse halted after pitch invasion by angry fans

Relentless anger from FC Nantes supporters overshadows final league match against Toulouse FC.

Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash between FC Nantes and Toulouse FC was brought to an abrupt halt after Nantes supporters stormed the pitch at Stade de la Beaujoire in the 20th minute. The game, which was deadlocked at 0-0 in the final round of the season, was suspended when dozens of fans wearing black hoodies and waving club scarves breached security barriers.

The invaders, some carrying flares, forced both teams to retreat to their locker rooms in a chaotic scene. Vahid Halilhodzic, Nantes’ head coach, attempted to confront the supporters on the field but was restrained by staff members.

Once inside the locker room, Halilhodzic unleashed his frustration in front of television cameras. While most of the pitch invaders returned to the stands, the match remained suspended as officials from the French Football League and local authorities convened an emergency meeting to determine the next steps.
