The Mali Armed Forces (FAMa) recently completed a significant security operation, ensuring the safe passage of nearly a thousand civilian vehicles along the vital transport artery connecting Kayes to the capital, Bamako. Between June 23 and June 29, 2026, military units provided constant protection for 940 trucks navigating this essential corridor.
Strategic escort from Kayes to Bamako
The mission began with an initial detachment of FAMa troops escorting 540 civilian trucks from Kayes toward Sandaré. Simultaneously, a second military group departed from Diéma on June 23 to link up with the convoy. This reinforcement allowed the army to take charge of the initial vehicles as well as several others that had been immobilized in Sandaré due to various constraints.
Once the groups merged at Diéma, the convoy grew to a total of 940 civilian trucks. Under heavy military protection, the massive line of vehicles traveled through several key locations, including Sebabougou, Kwala, Diédiéni, Kolokani, and Kati. The journey concluded in Bamako without any significant security disruptions or major incidents recorded along the way.
Ensuring free movement across Mali
This successful escort mission is part of the ongoing commitment by the FAMa to safeguard the nation’s primary road networks. By securing these strategic routes, the military continues to fulfill its permanent mandate of protecting civilians and ensuring the free movement of goods and people across the entire territory of Mali.
