The municipal authorities of N’Djamena’s 7th district have initiated a sweeping cleanup campaign along Taïwan Avenue this week, targeting illegal roadside obstructions that have crippled traffic flow and endangered public safety. Under the direct supervision of District Mayor Adoum Hassan Djimet, the operation aims to reclaim public thoroughfares from chaotic encroachments that have turned once-navigable streets into hazardous bottlenecks.
Officials are dismantling unapproved market stalls, removing stray livestock wandering onto the roadway, and clearing other unauthorized structures that encroach upon the pavement. The mayor emphasized that these obstructions not only trigger daily gridlock but have also become a leading cause of fatal traffic collisions in the district.
Speaking to residents during an awareness drive, Mayor Djimet stressed the collective responsibility in maintaining orderly public spaces. “Open roads save lives. We cannot afford to lose another citizen to preventable road accidents caused by illegal occupation of our streets.” He called on all district residents to embrace this behavioral shift as a civic duty.
Strict enforcement measures will be applied against repeat offenders, including seizure of goods from illegal vendors and impoundment of wandering animals. The administration has warned that no exceptions will be made for those continuing to flout public space regulations.
