N’Guigmi, situated in the Diffa region, borders Lake Chad—a sprawling wetland shared by Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, and Chad. Attack details emerge amid ongoing military response
Local residents, speaking on condition of anonymity for their safety, confirmed the scale of the assault. “Boko Haram launched the attack early Friday morning,” said one witness. “At least ten soldiers were killed, along with four members of the national guard. The attackers suffered casualties as well, and the army is currently conducting sweeping operations to secure the area.”
The Nigerien Press Agency (ANP), the country’s official news outlet, acknowledged the fatalities without providing a precise death toll. In a statement, it confirmed that military personnel “lost their lives during an armed confrontation with Boko Haram elements in the outskirts of N’Guigmi.”
