The United Nations has released alarming figures revealing that armed groups affiliated with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) have claimed the lives of over 300 civilians in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) since the start of the year. The majority of these tragic incidents occurred in the volatile regions of Ituri and North Kivu provinces.

Among the most recent tragedies was a brutal nighttime assault on the village of Ngadi, situated close to Beni in North Kivu. According to official statements from the Congolese government, this attack resulted in the deaths of 15 civilians along with one security personnel.

In a span of just three days, ADF rebels escalated their violent campaign in the Beni area, targeting unarmed communities and leaving behind a trail of destruction. Local reports confirmed that more than 40 civilians lost their lives during this concentrated period of attacks.

The ADF insurgency has plagued eastern DR Congo for nearly three decades, with their presence dating back to the mid-1990s. Over the years, they have systematically targeted villages, contributing to thousands of civilian fatalities. In 2019, the group formally aligned itself with the Islamic State, which now recognizes the ADF as its Central Africa Province and has claimed responsibility for several of their most devastating operations.
