Patrice Talon elected senate president in Benin, full leadership unveiled
Benin’s Senate has officially inaugurated its first Bureau, marking a pivotal moment in the establishment of this constitutional institution. The historic vote took place in Porto-Novo, where senators convened to elect their leadership on August 6, 2026.
Senate leadership takes shape
Following a smooth electoral process, Patrice Talon was elected President of the Senate, a role that places him at the helm of the upper house’s operations. His responsibilities include steering legislative sessions and ensuring the chamber functions efficiently within Benin’s constitutional framework.
Louis Vlavonou has been appointed as Vice-President, a position that positions him as Talon’s right hand. In the event of any impediment to Talon’s duties, Vlavonou will assume leadership responsibilities to maintain continuity in the Senate’s operations.
The rapporteur role, a critical position for document oversight and legislative reporting, has been assigned to Alassane Séidou. Adidjatou Mathys will serve as Deputy Rapporteur, supporting Séidou in his duties.
