During the official launch of his new political party, KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes républicains, the President of the Republic delivered a pointed message that many believe was directed at his former Prime Minister. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye issued a clear warning: « Fii, saa fitnë dootufi nanee ñeex ». This statement can be translated as: “Here, from now on, what was once tolerated will no longer be acceptable.”
In his address, the founder of KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains underscored Senegal’s enduring stability and commitment to peace. This public declaration comes at a time of escalating tensions between the two highest-ranking officials in the executive branch, against a backdrop of a reshuffling within the presidential majority and the establishment of the new political entity.
The President’s remarks follow several months of visible disagreements between the head of state and his former government chief. These differences have manifested in distinct tones during their respective national addresses and culminated in the definitive separation between the presidential coalition and the Pastef party.
It is worth noting that Ousmane Sonko, the president of Pastef, has concurrently initiated his own membership card drive, a campaign that has been underway for several days with his party colleagues.
