Drone strikes conducted by the Burkina Faso military on Sunday resulted in the deaths of at least ten civilians, predominantly young men, who were gathered for a traditional group wedding ceremony in the country’s central region. The incident occurred in the village of Téné, within the San area.
This tragic event unfolds against a backdrop of escalating security challenges across Burkina Faso, following large-scale coordinated attacks launched by jihadist groups on April 25 and 26. These assaults were attributed to the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, alongside the predominantly Tuareg Azawad Liberation Front (FLN).
