The Democratic Union of Cameroon, led by Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, has voiced a stern condemnation regarding the inhumane treatment of a citizen.
The UDC is expressing deep concern over reports indicating that political activist Jacques Bertrand Mang has been subjected to torture and various forms of inhumane treatment. Through its president, the party has issued a vigorous condemnation of these practices, which are explicitly prohibited by the Constitution of Cameroon. The UDC stated that if these reported incidents are confirmed, they would constitute a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights and the essential principles governing a state of law.
In a formal statement, the political organization reminded the public and authorities that no form of civic activism or personal dispute can justify the use of torture, violence, or any cruel and degrading treatment. Consequently, the UDC is urging the government to launch a comprehensive investigation into the allegations surrounding this case. The party emphasizes the need to safeguard the physical and psychological integrity of Jacques Bertrand Mang while ensuring his legal rights are fully upheld.
Known for his outspoken views on social injustice, the daily hardships of the people, and national governance, Jacques Bertrand Mang is once again at the heart of a major controversy. The activist was allegedly the victim of torture and abuse within a police station in the city of Douala on June 30, 2026. During a live stream on his Facebook page, he was seen requesting that police officers allow him to leave. The response he received was that his departure was prohibited while he remained in an angry state. Despite his efforts to exit the premises, he was blocked and told he must wait for the arrival of a superior officer.
Beyond this specific event, Jacques Bertrand Mang has a history of being targeted by authorities, including past arrests and a forced admission to a medical facility for psychiatric evaluation against his will. His social media broadcasts and video publications frequently critique the actions of the police, gendarmerie, customs officials, and municipal authorities, as well as various government figures and celebrities. According to current information, he has been placed in police custody.
