The defense alliance between the United States and Benin has been unequivocally reaffirmed. At the heart of this renewed commitment was a high-level discussion at the Pentagon, where General Christopher J. Mahoney, Vice Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, engaged with Major General Fructueux Gbaguidi, Chief of Staff of the Beninese Armed Forces.

Their extensive discussions centered on bolstering joint security initiatives and expanding military assistance provided by Washington. A key component of this support flows through the U.S. Africa Command (Africom), underscoring its pivotal role in the partnership.

Both senior officials highlighted the indispensable role a stable, secure, and democratic Benin plays in fostering broader regional peace. They pledged to significantly intensify their military cooperation and to work hand-in-hand with other regional allies. The objective is clear: to effectively counter emerging transnational threats and ensure enduring stability across the region.
