Willy Mengue, a leading voice against the return of Maurice Kamto to the presidency of the Mouvement pour la renaissance du Cameroun (MRC), has formally requested that Equinoxe TV provide a more balanced approach to its news coverage.

This demand for impartiality follows the recent appearance of Vice President Mamadou Mota on the program “La vérité en face” this past Sunday. Mengue insists that a recalibration of how political information is presented is essential to maintain fairness and uphold the public’s right to truthful reporting.

According to Mengue, the necessity for this change is rooted in the principles of equity and the pursuit of journalistic integrity. He argues that the current media narrative surrounding the internal dynamics of the party requires a broader perspective to reflect the reality of the situation.

“There is an urgent need to organize either a direct debate between the two factions or, at the very least, a substantial right of reply following the broadcast of ‘La vérité en face,’ which focused on the contested return of Professor Maurice Kamto to the helm of the MRC,” Mengue stated in an open letter addressed to the CEO of Equinoxe TV. He noted that while Mamadou Mota was given the opportunity to speak on this critical issue, the same courtesy should be extended to the dissenting members he represents.

During the Sunday evening broadcast, Mamadou Mota defended the transition that saw Maurice Kamto return to the party’s leadership. However, Willy Mengue continues to challenge this move, describing it as a “fraudulent return” that bypasses standard procedures.

“Equinoxe TV is known as the ‘people’s channel’ that looks beyond the image. Your reporting on the alleged manipulation of the MRC’s founding documents to facilitate the return of a former leader will only be fair if this requested right of reply is granted,” Mengue added. He concluded by reminding the station that the people of Cameroun are closely watching how this matter is handled.
