The National Police Academy in Porto-Novo hosted the official launch ceremony for preparatory training sessions leading to the Brevet d’Études Supérieures de Sécurité (BESS), the Diplôme d’État-Major des Forces de Sécurité (DEMES), and the Diplôme Spécial d’État-Major des Forces de Sécurité on May 14, 2026.

This inaugural event represents a pivotal milestone in enhancing the capabilities of Benin’s internal security forces. Under the distinguished patronage of Inspector General Kokou Brice Allowanou, Director General of the Republican Police, the ceremony brought together military leaders, government officials, senior police officers, and esteemed academics.

Elevating security leadership through advanced training

Commissioner Gilles Yekpe, Director of the National Police Academy, outlined the objectives of these high-level programs, designed to equip participants for senior security roles. He emphasized the need to cultivate a forward-looking perspective on national, regional, and global security challenges. “This session unites a team of top-tier national and international trainers, each bringing deep expertise to ensure your success,” he noted. “The curriculum will cover critical areas such as police strategy, human and operational resource management, command leadership, and both domestic and cross-border security.”

Inspector General Kokou Brice Allowanou underscored the significance of continuous professional development and the expectations placed on future senior security leaders. “These training programs offer an invaluable opportunity to sharpen your skills, nurture leadership qualities, and prepare for the responsibilities that await you,” he stated. He also urged participants to approach the training with discipline, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.

Inaugural lecture sets the tone for modern policing

The event concluded with an opening lecture by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Parakou, exploring the theme: “Rule of Law, Republican Police, and Security Challenges.”

By launching these advanced programs, the National Police Academy aims to elevate the professionalism of the Republican Police and foster a skilled security elite capable of addressing today’s evolving threats. This initiative reflects Benin’s broader commitment to modernizing its core institutions and strengthening national security frameworks.
