The President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, delivered a firm statement: “We will continue this fight with renewed determination until this threat is completely eliminated.” His words followed an assault carried out by an offshoot of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram on a military base in Barka Tolorom, located along the Chadian shoreline of Lake Chad. The assault resulted in 24 fatalities among Chadian soldiers.
