The Burkinabè Etalons completed another series of friendly matches preparing for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). After a goalless draw (0-0), Burkina Faso and Mali once again parted with a 2-2 stalemate on Sunday, 7 June 2026 at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou.
The Malians struck first in this friendly. In the 10th minute, Fatoumata Diarra put the Aiglonnes ahead (0-1). The Etalons remained composed and regrouped. They controlled possession and forced the Malians to chase the ball.
A shot came back off the crossbar, and Deborah Guira, following up well, knocked the ball into the net (1-1). That was the equaliser.
Despite the technical quality of the Aiglonnes, the Burkinabè imposed their game. On another well‑worked move, Judicaëlle Ouoba fired the ball into the top corner. The Malian goalkeeper had no chance. Coach Pascal Sawadogo’s players took the lead (2-1). That was the score at halftime.
Mali fight back to level
In the second half, the Etalons enjoyed more possession while the Malians attacked without breaking down the Burkinabè defensive organisation.
Eventually, from a penalty, Aissata Traoré converted to bring Mali back level (2-2). That remained the final score, even though both teams pushed until the final whistle.
In the first meeting, the two sides had drawn 0-0. These matches prepare for the WAFCON finals scheduled for Morocco.
Burkina Faso are in the same group as Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania and South Africa. Mali share a group with Ghana, Cape Verde and Cameroon.
The tournament is set for 25 July to 16 August 2026. This friendly once again allows Pascal Sawadogo and his players to continue their preparations as they await the start of the competition.
