Cameroon and Chad strengthen military ties after unity day
The participation of Chad’s armed forces in the National Unity Day parade has paved the way for deeper bilateral military cooperation between Yaoundé and N’Djamena.
Following Chad’s armed forces participation in the National Unity Day parade, Cameroon and Chad are moving to deepen their long-standing military cooperation, rooted in shared security priorities and enduring camaraderie.
The day after the 54th National Unity Day celebrations, Cameroon and Chad have reaffirmed the strength of their military and diplomatic cooperation. On May 21, 2026, Cameroon’s Minister Delegate to the Presidency in charge of Defense, Mr. Beti Assomo Joseph, received in audience in Yaoundé the Chadian Minister of National Defense, Veterans, and War Victims, General Issakha Malloua Djamous.
The Defense Ministry’s conference room hosted a crucial working session between Cameroonian and Chadian military officials. Through this meeting, both countries aim to further solidify their bilateral cooperation, which is built on shared security interests and a renewed spirit of military brotherhood, according to a statement from the Defense Ministry’s communication department.
Led by General Issakha Malloua Djamous, the Chadian delegation was welcomed in an atmosphere of warmth and mutual respect. Discussions primarily focused on strengthening cooperation between Cameroon’s and Chad’s defense forces, as well as addressing common security challenges facing the subregion.
The working session also highlighted the convergence of views between Yaoundé and N’Djamena on several strategic issues. Both leaders emphasized the need to maintain close collaboration to uphold regional stability and security.
As a special guest of Cameroon during the 54th National Unity Day celebrations, the Chadian detachment of the National and Nomadic Guard made a notable impression during the parade on Boulevard du 20 Mai in Yaoundé. Their presence was a powerful symbol of the strong cooperation and camaraderie between the armed forces of the two nations.
Beyond military matters, the meeting underscores the commitment of Cameroonian and Chadian authorities to preserve and strengthen the bonds of friendship between their peoples. Through this audience, Cameroon reaffirms its dedication to enhancing strategic partnerships with its regional neighbors in a spirit of peace, security, and African integration.
