Contrary to online publications that had suggested for over a week that the Ceuta crossing would reopen on Saturday, August 15th, official statements from authorities in both countries have clarified the situation. Instead of an anticipated opening, new preventative measures have been put in place to avert any renewed significant influx of migrants.
These updated protocols are a direct response to a substantial surge observed at the close of July, during which an estimated 72,000 individuals entered Spain through Ceuta. Almost all of these individuals were subsequently repatriated to Morocco, highlighting the intricate and sensitive nature of border management in this critical region.
