The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the list of officials invited to the preparatory training camp for the upcoming U17 Africa Cup of Nations. This session serves as a vital precursor to the final selection of referees who will oversee the tournament held in Maroc from May 13 to June 2.
In this preliminary selection, Sénégal is represented by a single official: El Hadj Amadou Sy. Following this preparation stage, CAF will finalize the roster of referees authorized to officiate during the CAN U17 in Maroc. Having earned the status of a FIFA international referee in 2019, El Hadj Amadou Sy continues to demonstrate his professional advancement. A native of Saint-Louis, he began his officiating journey in the “navétanes” competitions, starting with the cadet categories before climbing the ranks to senior matches and eventually establishing himself in the professional leagues of Sénégal.
A veteran of continental fixtures, he previously participated in the 2023 CAN U20 as well as the most recent edition of the CAN U17. While Sénégal has often been represented by several officials or even full refereeing trios in past African tournaments, El Hadj Amadou Sy will be the sole representative of the national colors during this preparatory phase. He hopes to secure a place on the definitive list to represent Sénégal during the competition, which will also feature the participation of the Senegalese national youth team.
Regarding other participating nations, Algérie, Cameroun, DR Congo, Maroc, Zambie, and Afrique du Sud are among the most represented with three officials each. Other countries, including Tunisie, Mali, Nigeria, and Égypte, have two referees included in this selection.
