The Sénégal women’s national football team is set to compete against Tunisie in the second round of the Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympic qualifiers. This critical double-header is scheduled to take place in October 2026.
Following the draw for the African women’s football Olympic qualifying tournament held on Wednesday, April 29, the full roadmap for the competition has been established. The qualifying journey will span from June 1, 2026, to December 4, 2027.
Tournament structure and early rounds
The qualification process consists of five rounds of home-and-away fixtures. The opening round features the six lowest-ranked teams according to the FIFA standings:
- Soudan will challenge the Comores
- Soudan du Sud will face Madagascar
- Maurice will play against Djibouti
The remaining nations will begin their campaigns in the second round this coming October. High-profile matchups include Maroc, the recent Women’s AFCON finalists, taking on Congo. A heavyweight clash with Nigéria, the reigning African champions who competed in Paris 2024, could occur as early as the third round.
The path to Los Angeles 2028
For Sénégal, victory against Tunisie in the second round would set up a third-round encounter with the winner of the Mali vs Bénin series. Meanwhile, Algérie will launch its quest for an Olympic spot in the République centrafricaine.
Zambie, another representative from the Paris 2024 Games, faces a challenging path. They must first overcome Ouganda before a potential showdown with Ghana as they aim for a third consecutive Olympic appearance.
