Representing the Head of State, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the Vice-President of the Government, Hermann Immongault, traveled to Antananarivo on June 26 to participate in the festivities marking the 66th anniversary of Madagascar’s independence. Alongside various international delegations, Hermann Immongault attended the military parade at the Mahamasina Stadium, which showcased the modernization, patriotism, and commitment of the Malagasy Armed Forces. This year’s commemoration was held under the theme of reform driving Madagascar’s development.

The presence of the Vice-President highlights the strong bonds between the Gabonese and Malagasy people. It serves as a clear indication of the desire in both Libreville and Antananarivo to further energize their bilateral exchanges. This diplomatic engagement follows the recent stay of Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, President of the Malagasy Refoundation, in Libreville from June 5 to 7. The highlight of that visit was a private meeting with his Gabonese counterpart, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, at the Palais du Bord de Mer, where Randrianirina expressed his intent to draw inspiration from Gabon’s transition management and praised the milestones reached during this era.

By delegating the coordinator of government action to attend these celebrations, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema reaffirms the strategic importance Gabon places on its relationship with the Great Island. This surge in high-level interactions between the two countries signals the start of a new phase of cooperation, offering promising opportunities for advancement in political, diplomatic, cultural, and economic sectors.
