Abidjan – A contingent of 150 elite soldiers, clad in combat fatigues and camouflage gear, weapons at the ready, with masks, balaclavas, and berets donned, made a striking entrance. Led by their coordinator, proudly brandishing the red, yellow, and green national flag, with snipers positioned strategically behind, this special unit marched to the distinctive rhythm of the “Chameleon Step.”
The Special Forces of the Republic of Guinea paraded to thunderous applause from the public, punctuated by standing ovations and crisp military salutes from the official tribune, during Côte d’Ivoire’s 66th independence anniversary celebrations.
This particular segment, which concluded the foreign military contingents’ parade in Abidjan on Friday, August 7, garnered significant attention. Both on television broadcasts and across social media platforms, journalists, bloggers, and internet users lauded the powerful demonstration by the Guinean detachment.
Ivorian admiration for the guinean display
The enthusiasm was palpable among Ivorian spectators. Deloy Dadié, clearly captivated by the performance, wrote, “I am Ivorian, but for me, this was the best parade. Moreover, with such composure, I can’t stop watching it. I even downloaded the video. Thank you, Guinea.”
Brice Kouadio echoed this sentiment: “The best for me this year: imposing, powerful, fierce, and elegant!”
Constant Silué took his praise a step further, comparing the Guinean display to that of the Ivorian army itself: “I enjoyed the Guinean army’s parade more than our own. Back in Guinea, the parade footage also sparked immense national pride. Bory Diallo stated, “The sub-region is impressed by the Guinean army.”
Ibrahima Bah highlighted the profound symbolic significance of this participation: “Maintaining good relations with our neighbors is essential. There’s a strong Guinean community in Côte d’Ivoire, and seeing our army parade on such an occasion fills us, Guineans, especially those residing in this magnificent country, with immense pride.”
Sekou Moriba shared this deep sentiment: “Despite everything, when we see them, our hearts are filled with a kind of pride.”
