Human Rights Watch has released a damning report on recent airstrikes conducted by Africa Corps in Kyrnia, located in the Mopti region of Mali. The strikes, which occurred on June 15, resulted in the tragic loss of eight civilian lives. Contrary to claims made by Russian military partners supporting Mali‘s armed forces, the investigation found no evidence linking any of the casualties to members of the JNIM (Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimin).
Ilaria Allegrozzi, a senior Sahel researcher at Human Rights Watch, conducted the probe and shared her findings. The organisation’s conclusions raise serious concerns about the accuracy and accountability of military operations in the region.
