Southern Libya’s desert command leader, Colonel Ahmed Abu Qila, has unveiled plans for an extensive border security sweep spanning key southern cities. The operation will cover routes from Sebha and Umm al-Aranib, through Qatrun, Dahaan Murzuq, and Tajarhi, all the way to Libya’s border with Chad.

In a televised address on Al-Masar, Colonel Abu Qila outlined the ongoing efforts to map out patrol routes, finalize operational strategies, and establish a new security outpost in the designated “Border Zone 17”. He emphasized that the General Command remains fully committed to supporting the anti-immigration agency, acknowledging the urgency of addressing irregular migration as a matter of national security.

The commander highlighted the critical role played by the agency’s vice-general in providing essential equipment and logistical support, which has significantly boosted field operations and overall efficiency. He also underscored the importance of forging partnerships with neighboring and allied nations and acquiring cutting-edge surveillance technology to dismantle transnational smuggling networks.
