The cornerstone for the comprehensive overhaul of the drinking water distribution system in Yaoundé was officially laid this Thursday, June 25, 2026, in the district of Minkoameyos. This initiative is designed to provide a lasting solution to water access challenges for the capital and its surrounding suburbs.
The formal launch ceremony for the reconfiguration of the Yaoundé drinking water network took place at the town hall esplanade of Yaoundé VII in Minkoameyos. The event was led by the Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, who was joined by the Director General of Camwater, Dr. Blaise Moussa, along with various government ministers, diplomats, local officials, and civil society advocates.
Ordered by President Paul Biya, this vital infrastructure project seeks to strengthen water delivery for the inhabitants of Yaoundé, Soa, Akak, Mfou, Bikok, and Mbankomo. It specifically targets areas currently lacking connections or those suffering from chronic service disruptions.
In addition to residential households, industrial users, schools, and medical centers are set to be the primary beneficiaries of this modernized network. The upgrade is expected to stabilize the supply for these critical institutions.
To guarantee the project’s timely completion, Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba called upon all stakeholders to collaborate closely and maintain professional synergy on the ground. For his part, the head of Camwater confirmed that the utility company is fully committed to overcoming any technical or administrative obstacles to satisfy the ever-growing water needs of the Yaoundé metropolitan region.
