President GOÏTA launches construction of 15 new hospitals!

Bamako, November 10, 2025. General Assimi GOÏTA, President of the Transition, officially initiated the Presidential Emergency Hospital Project by laying its cornerstone. This significant ceremony, held at the Korofina Reference Health Center in Commune I of the Bamako District, marks the commencement of a comprehensive program designed to significantly upgrade Mali’s national health system.

Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo TOURÉ, the Minister of Health and Social Development, highlighted that this ambitious project is a direct continuation of the General States of Health discussions from December 2024. Those deliberations underscored the critical need to enhance access to medical care and elevate the overall quality of healthcare services across the nation.

Restructuring Mali’s National Hospital System

As articulated by the Minister, this initiative aims for a profound “modernization and restructuring” of the existing hospital infrastructure. It encompasses the construction of fifteen brand-new hospitals and the conversion of current Reference Health Centers (CSREF) within the Bamako District into fully operational District Hospitals. These crucial works, entirely financed by the national budget, are projected to span 12 months for facilities in Bamako and 24 months for those situated in the regions.

The Presidential Emergency Hospital Project is structured around three core pillars:

  1. The transformation of CSREF facilities across Bamako’s seven arrondissements into modern district hospitals.
  2. The establishment of new district hospitals in the localities of Bla and Kangaba.
  3. The development of advanced regional hospitals in key cities including San, Koutiala, Bougouni, Dioïla, Nioro, Bandiagara, and Koulikoro.

These upcoming healthcare facilities will be outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment, feature expanded inpatient capacities, and offer specialized services, including dedicated hemodialysis units for the hospitals in Bamako’s 1st and 6th arrondissements.

Project Priorities and Oversight

Following the inaugural ceremony, the President of the Transition reiterated that a robust healthcare system is a fundamental cornerstone for national development. He urged the Minister of Health to diligently ensure the uninterrupted delivery of public services throughout the construction phases and to strictly adhere to contractual timelines. President GOÏTA also underscored the profound human objective of this undertaking: to bring high-quality medical care closer to all citizens, significantly reduce the need for medical evacuations abroad, and alleviate the strain on existing healthcare facilities.
