The political atmosphere in Sénégal remains heavily charged as debates over constitutional reforms and the relationships between major political figures intensify. This Sunday, Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly, the former head of the PDS parliamentary group, launched a blistering verbal attack against Ousmane Sonko.
A direct confrontation with the Pastef leader
During a high-stakes intervention, the former lawmaker described the leader of Pastef as the “biggest manipulator on the political stage.” He criticized Ousmane Sonko for maintaining contradictory stances and making repeated allegations without providing any tangible evidence.
Allegations regarding sensitive national files
The former deputy revisited several high-profile controversies that have dominated the Sénégal political landscape in recent years. These include the Adji Sarr case, claims that 10 million F CFA were paid to certain deputies, and the rumor of a public account containing 1,000 billion F CFA.
According to Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly, these claims have never been substantiated. “The deputies never received the 10 million he spoke of. It was a fabrication,” he declared, openly questioning the credibility of Ousmane Sonko‘s past statements.
Questioning political consistency
Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly also accused the current President of the National Assembly of betraying his former convictions. He believes that Ousmane Sonko‘s political discourse has shifted to the point of contradicting his original promises to the public.
He further asserted that the former Prime Minister has gradually moved away from the logic of systemic rupture he once championed, adopting instead a posture focused on his own political interests.
Disclosures on past political maneuvers
The former PDS parliamentary leader also touched upon Ousmane Sonko‘s previous interactions with other political actors. He claimed that discussions had taken place regarding potential electoral alliances.
Furthermore, he alleged that these talks involved Karim Wade in the context of a presidential bid, while suggesting that Ousmane Sonko was reluctant to see other Pastef officials represent the party in major elections.
The constitutional debate at the heart of tensions
Finally, Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding constitutional revision. In his view, the current debate transcends the person of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and directly impacts the country’s institutional stability.
He expressed firm opposition to certain initiatives that he believes are designed to fundamentally alter the structure of power in Sénégal.
“This is not a question of Diomaye, but of the Constitution,” he concluded.
