Morocco emerges as a regional leader in responsible migration governance
In a recent interview from Washington, Moroccan-American scholar and expert Mohamed Daadaoui highlighted the pivotal role of the Kingdom of Morocco in shaping proactive migration policies. The academic described Morocco as a credible and reliable regional partner, whose comprehensive approach to preventing irregular migration has earned international recognition.

The researcher pointed to the seamless coordination between Morocco and Spain, particularly in dismantling human trafficking networks and conducting high-stakes rescue operations at sea. Yet, he cautioned against overburdening Morocco with sole responsibility for managing transcontinental migration flows.
“While Morocco can secure its borders, it cannot single-handedly address the root causes driving irregular migration,” Daadaoui remarked. He emphasized that tackling such a complex issue demands shared accountability among transit nations rather than placing undue pressure on one.
Europe’s essential partnership with Morocco
The scholar concluded by urging European governments to reframe their migration strategies. He stressed that sustainable solutions must prioritize addressing the socio-economic drivers behind migration, rather than relying solely on border control measures. Strengthening strategic partnerships with Morocco, he argued, is key to long-term success.
“Effective migration governance in the Mediterranean hinges on close collaboration with Morocco—our trusted and dependable partner,” he asserted.
