After covering nearly 3,000 km through five West African nations, the Motards du Faso wrapped up their 2026 Grand Tour Regional on August 11 in Ouagadougou. The 20-member delegation departed the Burkina Faso capital on August 2, embarking on a 10-day journey that took them through Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.
The expedition blended sport, tourism, and advocacy, with a strong focus on promoting road safety through helmet use. Upon their return, the group was greeted by a warm, celebratory reception in Ouagadougou. The journey’s inaugural leg set the tone for the entire trip: riders left Ouagadougou at 4:30 a.m. and arrived in Accra, Ghana, around 3:30 a.m. the following day—nearly 23 hours later, including breaks.
“This tour is part of an ongoing regional initiative we call the Grand Tour Régional des Motards du Faso 2026,” shared Abel Aziz Konaté, president of the Motards du Faso. “It also builds on our long-standing tradition of solidarity with fellow motorcyclists across the region. Earlier this year, we hosted the 72 Heures des Motards du Burkina, a major gathering that brought riders from neighboring countries together.”
The riders, clad in helmets and protective gear, traversed diverse landscapes on sleek motorcycles, covering more than 3,000 km amid a spirit of camaraderie and cultural exchange. Their route included a stop in Paga before crossing into Ghana, then continuing through Togo and Benin en route to Nigeria.
For Konaté, the journey was more than a test of endurance—it was a platform to showcase Burkina Faso’s resilience and hospitality. Along the way, the team engaged with local communities, sharing road safety messages and emphasizing the importance of helmet use.
“Our partnership with the Ministry of Security aligns with our vision: helmet use should be second nature, not enforced by law alone. Everyone on the road deserves protection—it’s a simple, life-saving choice,” he emphasized.
As the roar of engines fades in Ouagadougou, the Motards du Faso are already looking ahead to their next mission. Their commitment to advocacy remains unwavering, proving that every mile ridden is a step toward safer roads.
