Strengthening national stability through institutional cooperation
Belngar Larmé Jacques, the president of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) in Chad, hosted a high-level delegation from the African Union (AU) this Wednesday. This strategic encounter was designed to reinforce the framework of transitional justice within the country, aiming to solidify civil peace and national unity.
The mission, headed by Maria Jose Samba Ovono Obono—the special representative of the African Union Commission Chairperson in N’Djamena—is part of a broader partnership with the International Center for Transitional Justice. This collaborative effort seeks to establish lasting solutions to the various conflicts that have historically affected Chad.
A commitment to technical support and capacity building
Following the session, Maria Jose Samba Ovono Obono highlighted the indispensable role played by the national human rights body. She emphasized that the CNDH‘s work is vital to the peace process, which is why the African Union has prioritized this direct engagement.
The special representative further detailed the African Union‘s concrete pledge to the process. The organization will provide specialized technical assistance and focus on capacity building. The objective is to transform transitional justice into a powerful instrument that contributes to sustainable peace, social harmony, and the overall construction of the nation.
Reflecting on the productivity of the discussions, Maria Jose Samba Ovono Obono noted that the mission successfully identified the specific needs and obstacles currently facing the CNDH. She also took the opportunity to commend the dedication shown by Chad‘s highest authorities and national institutions in their search for enduring peace and social cohesion.
