The Minister of Mines in the Tchad, Fatimé Haram Acyl, recently highlighted the groundbreaking strides made by the National Mining and Marketing Company (SONEMIC) during the presentation of its annual report and strategic overview. Her remarks underscored a deep sense of national pride in the innovative solutions developed domestically to modernize the mining sector.

At the forefront of these innovations is a locally developed software system that tracks mining permits, integrates with customs and tax authorities, and ensures transparency across 147 active permits. The minister expressed her astonishment at discovering this tool, emphasizing its role in enhancing sector reliability and fostering trust among stakeholders.

Strategic mapping and international collaborations drive sector growth

Beyond technological advancements, the minister outlined a forward-looking strategy centered on resource mapping to accurately assess mineral deposits in key provinces and mitigate potential conflicts. This initiative reflects a commitment to data-driven decision-making and sustainable resource management.

Discussions are also underway with global partners to advance critical projects, including water transformation initiatives with the United Arab Emirates and the establishment of an antimony refinery. These collaborations signal Tchad’s ambition to diversify its economy by leveraging its mineral wealth and fostering industrial development.

Unified leadership and communication for sectoral success

The minister stressed the importance of strong leadership and cohesive communication as pillars for the mining and petroleum sectors. She called for a unified vision, urging all stakeholders to align with the President’s policies to transform these industries into engines of job creation and sustainable development.

The annual report marks a pivotal moment for SONEMIC, showcasing how local innovation, strategic planning, and international partnerships are paving the way for a transformative future in Tchad’s mining and petroleum landscape. “There’s work ahead for everyone, and Tchad will emerge stronger,” she concluded, urging collective action to capitalize on this momentum.
