The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, received a message from US President Donald Trump on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day celebrations held on July 30. In the message, Trump reaffirmed America’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and reiterated support for the Moroccan autonomy plan as the sole solution to the territorial dispute.
«The United States is clear: we recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and support the Moroccan proposal for autonomy as a serious, credible and realistic basis for a just and lasting solution,» President Donald Trump emphasized in his statement.
Unacceptable alternatives and urgent resolution
Trump stated that «any other path prolongs the status quo» and deemed it «unacceptable». He stressed, «This dispute must end now, and the United States will continue to drive progress toward this goal.»
Strengthening US-Morocco ties
In a congratulatory message to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people, Trump highlighted «250 years of American history and enduring friendship with Morocco», describing the bond as «built on trust and mutual respect».
He praised the «wise leadership» of King Mohammed VI, calling him «a pillar of stability», and underscored Morocco’s «consistent commitment to peace, combating extremism, and safeguarding the security of both Americans and Moroccans». Trump also highlighted Morocco’s pivotal role in the Abraham Accords, emphasizing the partnership’s value for the United States. «In this regard,» he added, «we will also work together to ensure the security of the Sahel region.»
Economic and strategic collaboration
On the economic front, Trump announced that his administration had instructed teams «to promote economic and social development with Morocco, including in the territory of Western Sahara». He highlighted key sectors such as technology, innovation, energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense as strategic pillars of the partnership.
«Together, we will build a new era,» Trump concluded, calling for a relationship that prioritizes the interests of both nations.
