The columnist Badara Gadiaga launched a sharp critique against Ousmane Sonko’s management of political funds during his tenure as head of government. Speaking on the Jakaarlo platform this Friday, Gadiaga highlighted that 142 days have passed since the former Prime Minister’s dismissal from the Primature on May 22, 2026. He asserts that during this period, Ousmane Sonko virtually exhausted the 1.77 billion CFA francs allocated for political funds.
According to Gadiaga, Ousmane Sonko left his successor, Al Aminou Lo, with less than 70 million CFA francs upon his departure. Calculating the figures, the columnist determined that this amount translates to approximately 12 million CFA francs expended daily throughout Ousmane Sonko’s time at the Primature.
Gadiaga starkly contrasted this significant expenditure with the dire situation at the university during the same period, referencing the tragic death of young Abdoulaye Ba, who was advocating for the payment of his 40,000 CFA franc scholarship. For Badara Gadiaga, this profound disparity illustrates a contradiction between the official discourse surrounding the Economic and Social Recovery Plan (PRES) and the actual management of public finances by the former head of government, who reportedly had access to over 300,000 CFA francs monthly from these funds.
It is this glaring discrepancy, between the plight of students in distress and the magnitude of sums mobilized at the Primature, that the columnist forcefully labels as “vampirism.”
