The Senate of Bénin has officially inaugurated its first leadership team during a plenary session held in Porto-Novo. Meeting on August 6, 2026, the newly elected senators convened to establish the chamber’s governing structure, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s parliamentary evolution.
At the helm of this historic transition stands Patrice Talon, who has been elected as the inaugural president of the Senate. His responsibilities include overseeing legislative proceedings, representing the institution, and ensuring its smooth operation in alignment with constitutional mandates.
The Senate’s leadership roster also includes Louis Vlavonou, who will serve as vice-president.
