The legal action initiated against Ousmane Sonko following his controversial remarks about the holy city of Touba is moving forward. Serigne Makhtar Bousso, representing the complainants, officially confirmed the maintenance of the lawsuit during his interrogation on Tuesday.

This legal battle began on July 14, 2026, when Serigne Modou Maroun Niang and Serigne Mourtalla Bousso submitted a formal petition to the public prosecutor. Both initiators of the complaint are grandsons of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba. They took issue with statements made by the Pastef leader during the opening of his party’s headquarters in Mbacké, where he allegedly asserted that illicit funds had made their way into the sacred town of Touba.
