The French National Day took center stage in N’Djamena last evening, as diplomats, officials, and community leaders gathered to honor the enduring partnership between France and Chad. The event, held at the French Residence, transformed into a vibrant display of cultural exchange and mutual respect, underscoring the deep ties that bind both nations.
A night of unity and shared values
The celebration commenced with the playing of both national anthems, setting a tone of harmony and pride. Among the distinguished attendees were the French Ambassador to Chad, Éric Gérard, the Deputy Secretary-General of Chad’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, military representatives, and diplomats from multiple countries. The guest list also included French nationals living in Chad, government officials, private sector leaders, and civil society representatives, all united by a common appreciation for the enduring alliance.
Reflecting on core values
In his keynote address, Ambassador Éric Gérard emphasized the significance of July 14th for the French Republic, highlighting the timeless principles of liberty, equality, and fraternity that define France’s national identity. He extended warm greetings to the veterans present, acknowledging their contributions to the historical bond between the two nations.
The ambassador’s speech also delved into the foundations of Franco-Chadian friendship, describing it as a living, evolving relationship built on mutual respect, honesty, and genuine affection. « Our partnership is not static; it grows stronger every day through open dialogue and shared commitment, » he remarked.
Advancing shared progress
Ambassador Gérard highlighted the robust cooperation between France and Chad, pointing to 39 active projects spanning critical sectors such as water infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, education, and youth empowerment. He referenced a landmark meeting between the heads of state of both countries in Paris on January 29, which set the stage for renewed collaboration under the updated framework of their bilateral relationship.
The ambassador also recalled the Africa-France Summit held in Nairobi, where 49 African nations, including Chad, convened at the highest level to redefine continental partnerships and opportunities for collective growth.
He expressed France’s unwavering support for Chad’s development agenda, particularly through its alignment with the national development plan « Tchad Connexion 2030, » a strategic roadmap aimed at propelling the country toward sustainable progress.
The evening concluded on a note of solidarity, with Ambassador Gérard expressing gratitude to all participants for their role in strengthening the Franco-Chadian bond—a relationship he described as both historic and forward-looking.
